Bluffing & Low-limit Tables

One thing that I have come to realize when it comes to playing low-limit tables is that it is almost never worth bluffing. Low-limit tables are full two types of people... people that are just beggining and don't know what they are doing and the people that do konw what they are doing but don't take it as serious as when they are playing for more money. I have noticed that even when you make some very believable bluffs, just about everyone will call you even when they don't actually have anything either. The best thing to do is to just sit tight and wait for the right hand to come along and that's when you can easily take their money.

Freeroll Tournaments

One of the best ways to get familiar with poker is to play the freeroll tournaments online.  Most of them offer cash prizes, so this means that you risk absolutely noting while getting the chance to win real money. Poker Champs has freeroll tournaments 24\7 so there is always a good time to play. Paradise Poker offers freeroll tournaments that give you the chance to win one million dollars. Noble Poker has freeroll tournaments that give you the chance to win ONE HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS.

One misconception about playing tournaments is that most people think that you need to be aggressive at the start. This really isn't true. Playing tight at the begining is the best strategy, you take it easy, sit back, and try and get to know your opponents. When the blinds start to get high enough, that's when you start playing aggressive. You will pose more of a threat especially since the blinds alone at this point are a threat themselves.

Practicing with play money

I like to practice online with play money, however no one else seems to actually practice with play money. I notice that they will bet and raise no matter what their hand seems to be. It is easy to bet on bad cards when the money isn't real because you really aren't risking anything at all. If this is how you practice then you are probably more likely to make bad calls when it comes to playing at real money tables. The best thing to do is play any play money table as if it were real money even though that can be hard sometimes, because you will want to call mediocre hands just to see if you get lucky. Do whatever it takes to make you think that you are playing with real money, because the last thing you want to do is turn a game of skill into pure luck. Make sure that you stick with your starting hand charts and know your outs. Try and keep a journal as well, make sure that you keep in it whether you are playing limit or no-limit, how many people are at the table, what seat you are in, what your pocket cards were, how you bet or if you folded and whether you won or lost. This will help you understand what you are doing right or wrong and what you might need to change about you betting style.
